    Croeso i Dosbarth Enfys!

Hello and a warm welcome to our class page. I’m Mrs Gunter, and I’m delighted to be working alongside our fantastic teaching assistants, Mrs Ross and Mrs McDonald, with our wonderful Nursery pupils this year. We have an exciting year ahead filled with learning, creativity, and fun, and we can’t wait to share this journey with you.

If you have any ideas, resources, or support to offer for our current topic, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – your contributions are always appreciated.

    Share Your Celebrations!

As part of our themes, we’d love to learn about the special celebrations that are important to your family. Whether it’s birthdays, cultural festivals, or seasonal traditions, please share photos, stories, or items that help us celebrate together. This is a wonderful way for the children to learn about diversity and the joy of different traditions.

    Important Information

    PE
PE is every Friday morning. Children to come to school wearing appropriate PE clothing. White T shirt, navy tracksuit bottoms and trainers. No jewellery, thank you!
    Reading

Every Friday, children will be given a library book along with their reading record. Have fun reading to your child as often as possible.

When you and your child are snuggled down with a book, look at the cover together before you launch into the story. Talk about the title and point out any characters in the illustration.

Ponder out loud about the story, or ask ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions:

I wonder what this story is going to be about.
Who do you think will be the main character?
How did the bear get across the river?
    Why was the fox cross?

Please write a short comment in their reading record about how well they engaged with the book. All reading books and records should be returned to school every Friday so that your child can be given a new book to continue their love for stories.

    Maths

In Nursery, mathematics is taught through play-based, practical experiences that are meaningful and engaging for young learners. Activities are designed to develop early mathematical concepts such as number sense, counting, sorting, comparing, pattern-making, and understanding shape, space, and measures.

Children explore maths through everyday routines, outdoor play, creative activities, and authentic contexts—such as cooking, building, and seasonal celebrations—encouraging problem-solving and reasoning skills.

The focus is on developing confidence, curiosity, and enjoyment of mathematics, laying strong foundations for future learning.

We also follow elements within White Rose Maths scheme and use Tapas Maths to build and strengthen pupils’ mental maths skills.

    Other Information

    Exploring Our Local Community

Each week, our pupils will have the opportunity to explore the local area. These visits will include trips to the local shops, café, library, and post office, giving children real-life experiences to support their learning.

We kindly ask for parent support during these outings. If you are available to help, please let me know – your involvement is greatly appreciated!
