| Class Teacher: Mr L. Thomas |
Hello and a warm welcome to our class page!
I’m Mr Thomas, and I am thrilled to be teaching our amazing Year 3 and Year 4 pupils this year. We follow the Curriculum for Wales, with lots of exciting opportunities for learning, creativity, and fun along the way.
Communication between home and school is really important to me, so please feel free to get in touch anytime.
If you have any ideas, resources, or support to offer for our current topic, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – your contributions are always greatly appreciated.
PE |
|
| PE is every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on this day, including suitable footwear. A PE kit consists of a white T-shirt, navy bottoms and trainers. No jewellery, thank you. | |
Reading |
|
| Your child will be supplied with a reading book that needs to be carried to and from school every day. The children will be able to change their books during reading time, whenever they have completed their book. Please continue to support your child with their reading at home to help develop their ability and fluency. |
|
Spelling |
|
| Spelling tests are completed weekly on a Friday morning. The spelling lists for the term are shared on ClassDojo. Please ensure your child is practising the correct level regularly at home. | |
Maths |
|
|
In our class, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme, which provides a clear, structured approach to developing mathematical understanding. Each lesson is presented through a ‘Growth Challenge’, giving learners the opportunity to choose their own level of challenge and take ownership of their learning. This approach encourages independence, resilience and a positive attitude towards problem-solving. We also use TAPAS maths warm-ups to keep key skills sharp and ensure children regularly revisit and consolidate important mathematical concepts. To support fluency, we use TTRockstars to help pupils build confidence, speed and accuracy with their times tables. Regular practice helps children apply their knowledge in lessons and strengthens their overall mathematical skills. Our aim is to make maths engaging, accessible and challenging for all learners. |

This term, our learning will take us on an exciting journey through the past two decades as we explore how life has changed since the early 2000s. We will investigate three fascinating themes:
1. Homes
We’ll discover what homes looked like in the 2000s by collecting family stories and photographs, comparing decoration and furniture trends, and exploring daily routines. Pupils will design and create their own 2000s-inspired rooms using a mix of art and design techniques.
2. Clothes and Culture
Fashion tells a story! We’ll look at clothing styles from the 2000s, design outfits and accessories, and explore how news, events, and celebrations shaped culture. Pupils will research key trends and create colourful designs inspired by the decade.
3. Entertainment and Technology
From TV shows and films to music and media, we’ll investigate what people watched, listened to, and how they communicated in the 2000s. Pupils will design posters, storyboards, and CD covers, and learn how technology has transformed the way we connect and enjoy entertainment.
Throughout the term, children will use creative arts, digital tools, and research skills to compare ‘then’ and ‘now’, helping them understand how our world has evolved in just 25 years.
This term, our learning will focus on the theme Our World, Many Voices. The children will explore what it means to be famous, how people use their voices to make a difference, and the legacies that inspirational figures leave behind.
We will be learning about well-known individuals from the past and present, including Marcus Rashford, Simone Biles, and Betsi Cadwaladr. Each of these role models has shown resilience, bravery, and determination in different ways – from campaigning against child poverty, to promoting mental health awareness, to improving conditions for soldiers in the Crimean War.
Through this topic, children will build their understanding of important concepts such as fame, legacy, activism, resilience, and impact. They will reflect on how people can inspire change and consider how they themselves can use their voices to make a positive difference in the world.
This exciting theme links across our curriculum, supporting children to develop their speaking, listening, and writing skills, while also deepening their understanding of history, citizenship, and personal development.
