Croeso i Dosbarth Coch!
Hello and a warm welcome to our class page. I’m Mrs James, and I’m delighted to be working alongside our fantastic teaching assistant, Mrs Derrett, with our wonderful Reception pupils this year. We have an exciting year ahead filled with learning, creativity, and fun, and we can’t wait to share this journey with you.
If you have any ideas, resources, or support to offer for our current topic, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – your contributions are always appreciated
Share Your Celebrations!
As part of our themes, we’d love to learn about the special celebrations that are important to your family. Whether it’s birthdays, cultural festivals, or seasonal traditions, please share photos, stories, or items that help us celebrate together. This is a wonderful way for the children to learn about diversity and the joy of different traditions.
PE |
| PE is every Friday morning. Children to come to school wearing appropriate PE clothing. White T shirt, navy tracksuit bottoms and trainers. No jewellery, thank you. |
Reading |
| Every Friday, children will be given an Oxford Reading Scheme book along with their reading record. We ask that you take time to read the book with your child, supporting and encouraging them as they develop their reading skills. Please write a short comment in their reading record about how they read, and how they found the book. All reading books and records should be returned to school every Friday so that your child can be given a new book to continue their reading journey. |
Maths |
| We follow the White Rose Maths scheme to support our main maths teaching, and we use Tapas Maths to build and strengthen pupils’ mental maths skills. At the moment, the children are focusing on counting to 20, recognising numbers and developing accurate number formation, as well as beginning to work with these numbers in practical activities. |

Exploring Our Local Community Each week, our pupils will have the opportunity to explore the local area. These visits will include trips to the local shops, café, library, and post office, giving children real-life experiences to support their learning. We kindly ask for parent support during these outings. If you are available to help, please let me know – your involvement is greatly appreciated! |
